Education: B.A., 1994, Florida International University Research Interests:At the Hispanic Clinic, a team of faculty members are involved in a number of projects focused around Latino behavioral health services. Current projects include the use of cognitive behavioral therapy and Motivational Interviewing in the treatment of monolingual Hispanic clients. Dr. Paris is Clinical Coordinator of the State Incentive Grant for Treatment of Persons with Co-Occurring Disorders (COSIG) at the Hispanic Clinic. This project seeks to increase the capacity to provide comprehensive, integrated and evidence-based treatment services to persons with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. He serves as a Technical Advisor to the Annapolis Coalition on the Behavioral Health Workforce. He has co-authored the Coalition’s published recommendations on competency development in behavioral health, contributed to a set of workforce recommendations presented to the Institute of Medicine, and is currently completing a comprehensive review of the evidence-base on recruitment and retention strategies, which will inform the national strategic plan. Dr. Paris teaches and lectures extensively on Latino behavioral health issues and serves as a consultant on the training of motivational interviewing in a national, multi-site study on the treatment of persons with substance use disorders.
