Graduate
Program
The
Physiology and Integrative
Medical Biology track is designed to provide an educational environment in
cell- systems- and integrative physiology. The Graduate
School of Arts and Sciences and the School
of Medicine at Yale University offer a combined interdepartmental admissions
process in the Biological and Biomedical
Sciences (BBS) which provides students with flexible opportunities to study
and conduct research with any of the more than 200 biological science faculty
at the School of Medicine and nearby University main campus. The Physiology and
Integrative Medical Biology track is one of eight first-year study tracks in the
BBS.
Incoming
students to the Physiology and Integrative Medical Biology track follow a first-year
curriculum designed to prepare them for entry in their second year into the
Graduate Program in Cellular and Molecular Physiology.
The curriculum also provides opportunities to explore areas of more specialized
interest taught by faculty of other departments. A thesis advisor is typically
chosen at the end of the first academic year. A qualifying examination is administered
and written prospectus filed in the second year. Time required for completion
of the Ph.D. degree averages 5 years.
